NGK AGREED TO EXPORT THE TECHNIQUE FOR FLUIDIZED BED FURNACE SYSTEM TO KOREA

NGK Insulators, Ltd. (President: Masaharu Shibata, Head Office: Nagoya) reached an agreement to offer the technique for fluidized bed furnace system for sewage sludge treatment to LG Cable & Machinery Ltd. (President: Hwan-Duck Yu, Head Office: Gunpo-si, Kyounggi-do, Korea) and singed the contract on February 7th, 1997.

According to this contract, NGK would offer the technique, which is required for LG Cable & Machinery Ltd. to construct the fluidized bed furnace for sewage sludge treatment; in addition, know-how to operate the system, and the test operation in Korea. On the other hand, LG Cable & Machinery Ltd. is supposed to pay an initial deposit of ¥60 million, the royalty, the technical instruction fee, and the instruction fee for test operation.

Background

The sewage sludge in Korea have been disposed by being buried in the land after the water content were reduced; however, due to the shortage of the land and the tightening of environmental regulations, the sludge incinerating system is expected to be diffused. LG Cable & Machinery decided to develop the new business, such as the sludge incinerating by the fluidized bed furnace, as part of its machinery department's reinforcement. After the research and investigation of several companies' systems, LG Cable & Machinery selected NGK as their counterpart. NGK participated in the system development in the early period and also has many actual records of supplying the systems in Japan. NGK also has already exported its technique for the sludge incineration system to England and Germany.

  2. Fluidized Bed Incineration System:
his system is widely applied to incinerate the sewage sludge and reduce their volume. As of February, 1997, NGK had already supplied 56 systems within Japan. By this system, the sewage sludge are stirred and mixed together strongly in the fluidized bed, therefore, they can be dried and burned not only immediately but also perfectly. Due to this process, the sewage sludge can be reduced by 1/10 to 1/15 in volume. (1/15 to 1/20 in weight)
