As an era of a global "mega-competition" is just around the corner with a border between each business field getting less clear, guidelines on management is becoming a key element for companies to grow. "EXCEL-01" is NGK's medium-term management plan effective as of April 1, 1997 till March 31, 2002. It defines NGK and its group's direction to take toward the 21st century and aims at achieving corporate excellence based on global standards.

"Corporate excellence based on global standards": In a coming era of a global "mega-competition," NGK will continue to provide benefits for the society, its shareholders, its customers and its employees, by growing constantly in an effort to climb to the top levels.

  • Reform the company's management from global point of view.
  • Accommodate to changes with flexible ideas without being bound by precedent.
  • Place emphasis on "speediness" in all actions.

Focussed Business

NGK focuses on "Triple E" business fields of Energy, Ecology and Electronics.

Sales Target

NGK aims to achieve consolidated sales figures of 500 billion yen, unconsolidated sales figures of 300 billion yen or above and unconsolidated ordinary income of 30 billion yen or above.

Strategic Growth
  • Excel competitors in technology by being selective about which business and product to focus the company's resources on; and thereby, create new business and products which place NGK as one of the leading companies in each market.
Competitive Performance
  • Aim at an improvement of ROE (Return on Equity) through highly profitable business and amortization of the company's shares by purchase.
  • Put "alliance strategy" into active practice focusing on "speediness" and "synergy."
  • Groom human resources to be capable of working in a global business field.
Corporate Citizenship
  • Being aware of its social responsibility as a company of excellence, NGK aims to be involved, in addition to the existing community relations activities, in a new type of activity, supporting international students as a main pillar, in which its employees participate.
  • Supply information to NGK's shareholders and investors through IR activities at home and abroad. In addition, send information worldwide through PR activities.
